Security is Liberty Safe's number-one priority when designing and building its safes.

 

Liberty assigns a Security Level to each of its safe series based on its construction and security features.

 

Liberty's Security Level system makes it easier to compare the construction and security features of its different safe series.

GOOD SECURITY

Security Levels: 3-4

  • A solid choice for basic home security and responsible firearm storage.
  • Helps prevent unauthorized access to firearms and valuables.
  • Best suited for everyday protection when advanced burglary resistance is not the primary concern.

BETTER SECURITY

Security Levels: 5-7

  • Increased protection for firearms, valuables and other important possessions.
  • Stronger construction and enhanced security features provide greater resistance to forced entry.
  • A good choice for customers seeking a higher level of burglary protection for their home.

BEST SECURITY

Security Levels: 8-10

  • Liberty's highest levels of security for valuable firearms, collections and irreplaceable possessions.
  • Heavy-duty construction and advanced security features provide increased resistance to aggressive break-in attempts.
  • Best suited for customers who want the strongest security available in Liberty's residential safe lineup.

Steel Thickness

Your safe’s door and walls are its first line of defense in keeping crooks out. The thicker the steel, the better security protection your safe will provide.

 

The measurement system for steel can be a little confusing. A lower gauge of steel is thicker than a higher gauge.

That's one reason Liberty's highest Security Levels combine thicker steel with advanced door construction, locking bars, relockers, and other anti-theft features.

Safe Body Construction

Dual Fusion™ 2-Piece Body Construction

A safe's security depends on more than steel thickness. How the steel is formed and joined also affects its ability to resist prying and other forced-entry attacks.

 

Select Liberty safes feature Dual Fusion™ 2-Piece Body construction, which uses a single piece of steel formed to create the top, bottom and sides of the safe, with a separate steel back panel welded into place.

 

This construction reduces the number of seams and potential weak points. Liberty positions the welded joints away from the corner edges and uses overlapping contact points and precision robotic welding to create a strong, rigid safe body.

 

Why it matters: A rigid body with fewer seams creates a stronger foundation for the safe's locking system and other security components to work together against forced entry.

Solid State™ Locking Bars

Locking bars help secure the safe door to the body and are a critical part of a safe's resistance to pry attacks.

Liberty's exclusive Solid State™ Locking Bars are made from a single solid piece of steel, eliminating the rivet attachment points found on traditional round locking bolts. Their wide, flat design also provides greater surface area where the locking bar engages the safe body, helping the door resist forced-entry and pry attacks.

 

As Liberty Security Levels increase, locking-bar protection also increases. Depending on the safe, Liberty uses different locking-bar thicknesses and configurations to provide progressively stronger protection. Liberty's Security Level system considers locking-bar thickness and number along with steel thickness, body and door construction, hard plates, lock protection and other security features.

 

Why Solid State™ Locking Bars Matter

 

One Solid Piece of Steel
Unlike traditional locking pins attached with individual rivets, Solid State™ Locking Bars eliminate those potential attachment-point weaknesses.

 

Greater Surface Area
The wide locking-bar design places substantially more steel behind the safe body than a traditional round pin, helping improve pry resistance.

 

Deeper Engagement
The 4-inch-tall locking bars extend farther behind the safe body, making it more difficult to pry the door past the frame.

 

Protection That Increases with the Safe
Liberty uses different locking-bar thicknesses and configurations throughout its lineup, allowing locking-bar protection to increase along with the safe's overall Security Level.

Lock Protection & Relockers

A safe's lock is only one part of its security system. Liberty adds layers of protection behind the lock to help defend the locking mechanism against drilling, punching and other forced-entry attacks.

Hardplate Lock Protection

Hardened steel plates are positioned between the exterior of the safe door and the lock mechanism to help resist drill attacks. Depending on the safe's Security Level, Liberty uses different types of hardplate protection, including single, triple-layer and ball-bearing hardplates.

 

Triple-layer hardplates create multiple hardened barriers that a drill must penetrate. On higher-security models, ball-bearing hardplates add hardened steel bearings designed to interfere with a drill bit as it attempts to reach the lock.

 

External Relockers

Liberty safes also use an external relocker as a secondary line of defense. If an attempted attack compromises or dislodges the primary lock, the relocker is designed to engage and keep the locking mechanism secured.

 

Why it matters: A burglar who attacks the lock still has to overcome the protection surrounding and backing it up. As Liberty Security Levels increase, these additional layers of protection help make the locking system progressively more resistant to forced entry.

Safe Locks & UL Ratings

The lock is the control point for accessing the safe, and Liberty uses UL-listed locks on many of its higher-security models.

A UL listing means the lock has been independently tested to meet defined standards for security, durability and resistance to manipulation. Liberty’s 2025 security comparison specifically treats UL listing and lock type as factors in its Security Level system.

 

For electronic locks, Liberty’s support material describes UL Type 1 as the standard commonly used for electronic safe locks, with requirements related to code combinations, memory retention, battery access and durability.

 

Why it matters: The locking bars, hardplates and relockers can only do their job if the lock itself is reliable. A tested, certified lock adds another layer of confidence to the safe’s overall security system.
